This post in 30 seconds.

  • What it is: Gorgias Convert is a paid add-on that turns your Gorgias chat widget into an on-site sales surface. Proactive campaigns, product recommendations, exit-intent offers. Gorgias says it lifts conversion rate by 15% and up to 49% of sales on targeted products (Gorgias docs).
  • What it costs: click-based billing, six tiers from $30/mo (50 clicks) to $2,000/mo (4,000 clicks), and it auto-upgrades you when you run out (Gorgias pricing).
  • The catch for $10M-$100M Shopify brands with a visible phone line: Convert only converts the shopper who is on a screen. The orders coming in by phone are a conversion surface it never sees.

You turned on Gorgias to answer tickets. Convert is Gorgias asking that same surface to also sell. It is a real product, it works, and for a lot of brands it pays for itself on the chat widget alone.

I spent an afternoon going through Gorgias's own Convert docs, the campaign case studies they publish, and the pricing page, then put it next to what we see on the phone side every day. If you run a Shopify brand doing $10M to $100M, with a paid helpdesk and a phone number on your site, this post is for you. Convert is a good answer to half the question. We work AI phone agents for 50+ Shopify brands, and the other half, the calls, is where most of these brands quietly leak orders. Book a 30-min call and we'll show you what your phone line is doing after 6 p.m.

What Gorgias Convert actually is

Gorgias Convert is an add-on to the Gorgias helpdesk. It runs inside the chat widget you already have and uses it to launch proactive campaigns instead of just waiting for a customer to ask for help.

The core idea is simple: stop using chat only for problems, and start using it to influence the purchase before it happens. Convert greets visitors, recommends products, and fires offers based on what the shopper is doing right now.

Under the hood it leans on a few things worth knowing:

  • It is a separate subscription. Light campaigns and normal chat stay inside your helpdesk plan. The advanced Convert features (real triggers, segmentation, the revenue dashboard) need their own subscription on top (Gorgias docs).
  • It targets with Shopify data, no code. You can segment on number of past visits, current URL, items in cart, previous purchases, and Shopify customer tags.
  • It tracks shoppers with local storage, not cookies. Less reliant on the cookie consent mess.
  • It is light on performance. Gorgias says the quick install drops your Lighthouse score by only 1 to 3 points.
  • It is Shopify-first. Some triggers do not work on headless stores, Magento, BigCommerce, or WooCommerce.

The headline numbers Gorgias publishes are strong. They claim Convert can lift conversion rate by 15% and increase sales up to 49% on the products you target, and that exit-intent campaigns double impressions and engagements while increasing the revenue those campaigns generate by 20% (Gorgias docs). Those are vendor numbers, so read them as a ceiling, not a promise. But the mechanics are sound, and if you already pay for Gorgias, turning the chat widget into a second merchandising channel is a reasonable move. For the wider helpdesk picture, our Gorgias pricing breakdown covers what the core platform runs.

How Convert turns browsing into orders

Convert ships as a set of campaign templates you point at specific moments in the shopping journey. You do not build conversion logic from scratch.

The whole system is six campaign types doing one job: catch the shopper at the right second and nudge. Gorgias groups them as personalized welcome, exit-intent, cross-sell and upsell, product education, new-product launch, and holiday promos (Gorgias blog).

The published results are specific enough to be useful:

  • Manduka, the yoga brand, pulled $11,788.91 in campaign revenue across 37,586 impressions, with a 19.65% mobile conversion rate on engaged shoppers (Gorgias).
  • Glamnetic ran an exit-intent discount that converted at 18.39%, and a collection launch that lifted sales on the featured items by 49% (Gorgias).
  • TUSHY ran a holiday campaign that influenced 47.9% of store revenue, and an A/B test where the campaign group bought 14% more than the control (Gorgias).

There is also the AI side. Gorgias's Shopping Assistant answers pre-sale questions and recommends products in chat, and Gorgias reports a 75% conversion-rate lift for Arc'teryx, a 10% bump in average order value, and an 8x return for Bare Minerals (Gorgias). The "$20 for every $1 spent" line you will see quoted is also Gorgias's own, so treat it as marketing math, not an audited benchmark.

Here is the honest read. These campaigns work because they meet a shopper who is already on your site, already browsing, already close. That is the easy half of conversion, and Convert does it well. If on-site conversion is your focus, our guide to ecommerce conversion rate optimization pairs nicely with what Convert automates.

What Gorgias Convert costs

Convert does not price like the helpdesk. It prices on clicks.

Every time a customer interacts with a Convert campaign, that is one click, and Gorgias bills up to three clicks per browser session. Here is the published ladder (Gorgias pricing):

Plan Clicks / month Monthly Cost per click
1 50 $30 $0.60
2 500 $300 $0.60
3 1,000 $575 $0.57
4 2,000 $1,100 $0.55
5 3,000 $1,575 $0.52
6 4,000 $2,000 $0.50

The one line to circle: auto-upgrade is on by default. If you blow past your click limit before the billing period ends, Gorgias automatically bumps you to the next tier, pro-rates the charge, and emails your admins (Gorgias pricing). That is convenient when a campaign takes off and annoying when you wanted a hard ceiling. Set it deliberately.

For context, this sits on top of the core Gorgias bill, which already runs higher than most help desks. The recurring complaint among merchants is price, and Convert is another line item, not a feature you toggle for free. Worth it if the chat campaigns clear their own cost. A separate decision from the helpdesk itself.

The conversion surface Convert can't see

Read every Convert case study back to back and you notice the same thing. Every win happens on a screen. The chat widget, the exit pop, the product card. Convert is very good at converting the shopper who is looking at your site right now.

But a real share of DTC orders never touch that screen. They come in by phone.

The phone is a conversion surface too, and it is the one Convert structurally cannot reach. When a customer calls to ask if a product is right for them, or to place an order they do not trust themselves to get right online, that is the same high-intent moment Convert chases on the website. The difference is who picks up.

For most brands, nobody does. The average business answers only about 38% of its inbound calls, and the other 62% roll to voicemail (AmbsCallCenter). Then 80% of voicemail-routed callers hang up without leaving a message (Eden). At a $40 order that is a rounding error. At the average order value most $10M-$100M Shopify brands run, those are real sales walking to a competitor while your team is offline.

This is the after-hours hole. The same questions over and over, the voicemails you never return, the where-is-my-order calls stacking up on a Monday. One of our customers said it plainly: most of his phone calls were people who wanted to place an order but did not feel comfortable doing it on the website. That demand is already there. The only question is whether anyone answers.

This is the gap Ringly fills. Ringly is AI phone support for Shopify brands. It answers inbound calls 24/7, finds orders in your Shopify store, answers product questions from your knowledge base, and escalates the hard ones to your team. WashCo, a Shopify brand we launched, recovered $22,664 in its first 7 days once its phone stopped rolling to voicemail. Across 50+ brands, the AI resolves 73% of calls on its own at roughly $0.42 per resolved call. Our breakdown of ecommerce phone support and WISMO calls goes deeper on what those calls actually are.

What this costs you vs what it recovers

Convert spends money to make money on-site. The phone side is mostly money you are already losing.

Run the math on a typical $50M Shopify brand. A six-rep customer support team at $4,000 loaded per rep is $24,000 a month, and it still goes dark nights and weekends:

Line item Today With an AI phone agent
6 reps × $4K loaded $24,000/mo n/a
AI phone agent (illustrative) n/a ~$5,000/mo
Net monthly support spend $24,000/mo $5,000/mo
After-hours calls answered a fraction all of them

The per-call number is where it lands: an in-house rep runs about $2.70 per call loaded, and Ringly runs roughly $1.20 to $2.00 per call with 24/7 coverage your team can't match. That is 70% of your repeatable calls, the order-status and product questions and the same five things over and over, handled without a human, while your reps get the genuinely hard calls back.

So the two products are not in competition. Convert recovers margin from shoppers on your site. A phone agent recovers orders from callers your site never sees. Most brands at this size want both. For the deeper version of this math, see our AI phone agent guide for $10M+ Shopify brands and how brands run 24/7 ecommerce phone support.

Convert, the Shopping Assistant, or a phone agent: how to choose

These three tools sound similar and solve different problems. Here is the clean split.

Tool Surface What it converts Pricing shape Best for
Gorgias Convert On-site chat widget The browsing shopper Per click, $30 to $2,000/mo Lifting CVR and AOV on traffic you already have
Gorgias Shopping Assistant On-site AI chat Pre-sale questions in chat Inside Gorgias AI usage Answering product questions and recommending in chat
Ringly AI phone agent The phone line The caller, including after-hours Flat monthly from $349 Capturing orders and support calls your site never sees

Choose by where your revenue is leaking:

  • Choose Convert if your traffic is high but on-site conversion is soft, and you want to merchandise inside chat without building it yourself.
  • Choose the Shopping Assistant if pre-sale chat questions are where shoppers stall and you want AI to answer and recommend in real time.
  • Choose a phone agent if your number is on your site, calls roll to voicemail after hours, and you suspect those calls were orders. They usually were. See how this compares for AI phone support on Shopify and how it handles order status on a call.

Honestly, for most $10M-$100M brands it is not either-or. Convert closes the gap on-site, a phone agent closes it on the line. If you are stress-testing your whole support stack, our ecommerce customer service and Shopify Plus customer service guides map the rest of it.

Frequently asked questions

What is Gorgias Convert? Gorgias Convert is a paid add-on to the Gorgias helpdesk that turns your chat widget into an on-site sales channel. It runs proactive campaigns, product recommendations, and exit-intent offers based on Shopify data, with the goal of lifting conversion rate and average order value.

How much does Gorgias Convert cost? Convert bills on clicks, where one click is one customer interaction with a campaign, capped at three clicks per browser session. Plans run from $30 a month for 50 clicks up to $2,000 a month for 4,000 clicks, and auto-upgrade is on by default (Gorgias pricing).

Is Gorgias Convert worth it? If you already pay for Gorgias and have decent traffic, Convert can pay for itself by lifting on-site conversion, and the published case studies are real. Just treat it as a separate line item and watch the auto-upgrade, because the cost scales with engagement, not with results.

Does Convert work without the Gorgias Helpdesk? No. Convert is an add-on that runs inside the Gorgias chat widget, so you need the core Gorgias helpdesk first. Light campaigns are included in the helpdesk plan, while the advanced Convert features need their own subscription.

Can Gorgias Convert handle phone calls? No. Convert lives entirely on your website, inside the chat widget, so it cannot answer or convert inbound phone calls. For the phone side you need a separate tool like Ringly, an AI phone agent that answers calls and turns them into orders.

How do I turn support phone calls into sales? Answer them, first of all, because most brands send 62% of inbound calls to voicemail. An AI phone agent picks up 24/7, handles order status and product questions, takes the routine calls off your team, and escalates the rest, so the high-intent caller gets a real answer instead of a dial tone.
