This post in 30 seconds.

  • Gorgias has roughly 450 to 525 employees as of 2026. The company has never published an official number, so every figure floating around is an estimate.
  • It went from 44 people in 2019 to about 500 today, then growth slowed to around 10% a year. That plateau tells you more than the raw count does.
  • Written for founders, COOs, and Heads of CX at $10M-$100M Shopify brands trying to figure out whether Gorgias is big enough, and stable enough, to build their support stack on.

Gorgias has somewhere between 450 and 525 employees as of 2026. The company does not publish an official headcount, so the number depends on who you ask: Revelio Labs models about 452, GetLatka logged 476 at the end of 2024, and Tracxn lists around 521. The honest answer to "gorgias number of employees" is a range, not a single figure.

Most $10M-$100M Shopify brands don't actually care about the exact count. They care about what it signals. If you're a founder or Head of CX about to wire your WISMO queue and your whole "where's my order" workflow into Gorgias, the real question is whether the company is stable enough to bet on. I run AI phone support for 50+ Shopify brands, so I size up CX vendors constantly. Book a 30-min call if you want a second read on your support stack, and below is everything the headcount actually tells you.

How many employees does Gorgias have in 2026?

The short version: about 450 to 525 people. No source agrees exactly, because Gorgias has never released an official figure.

Here's what the major data providers report:

Source Employee estimate As of How they count
Revelio Labs ~452, up 10.5% year over year Dec 2025 workforce-analytics model
GetLatka 476 Dec 2024 company + platform data
Tracxn ~521 May 2026 aggregated public profiles
RocketReach ~524 2026 contact-database scrape

The gap between 452 and 524 isn't an error, it's a methodology difference. Scrape-based sources like RocketReach and Tracxn count anyone who lists Gorgias as their employer on a public profile, so they tend to run high and include alumni who never updated their page. Payroll-style models like Revelio run leaner and lag by a quarter or two. When you see "Gorgias has 521 employees" stated as fact anywhere, read it as "roughly 500, give or take a few dozen."

Where do these numbers come from? I pulled them from the public company-data providers (Revelio, GetLatka, Tracxn) and cross-checked the company facts against Gorgias's own published company page, which confirms the founding year and office list but, tellingly, never states a headcount.

Gorgias headcount over time: 44 to about 500 in seven years

The single number is boring. The trajectory is the interesting part.

According to GetLatka's data, Gorgias grew its team like this:

Year Employees
2019 44
2020 127
2021 191
2022 279
2023 332
2024 476
2025-26 ~450-525

Two things jump out. First, Gorgias roughly 10x'd its headcount between 2019 and 2024, classic Series-B-into-Series-C hypergrowth. Second, that growth flattened hard after 2024. Revelio's latest data puts year-over-year growth at about 10.5%, down from the 40-70% annual jumps of the early years.

A CX-software company that stopped hiring at hypergrowth pace in 2024 is doing exactly what the rest of the category is doing: spending less on humans and more on automation. That plateau lines up with the broader shift across customer-support tooling, where every vendor, Gorgias included, is now selling AI as the reason you don't need to keep adding seats. Worth keeping in mind when their own sales deck tells you to automate.

Gorgias funding, valuation, and revenue

Headcount only makes sense next to the money. The fast facts, cross-checked across Sacra, PitchBook, and Crunchbase:

Metric Figure
Founded 2015
Founders Romain Lapeyre (CEO), Alex Plugaru (CTO)
Headquarters San Francisco
Offices 9 (San Francisco, New York, Charlotte, Toronto, Paris, Lisbon, Belgrade, Buenos Aires, Sydney)
ARR ~$72.6M (2024), up from $60.6M in 2023
Valuation $530M (May 2024, Series C)
Total raised ~$129M
Notable investors Shopify, Sapphire Ventures, Sequoia, Alven

The investor list is the part most operators miss. Shopify itself put money into Gorgias, which is a big reason it's the most-installed helpdesk in the Shopify ecosystem. That's a real moat, and it's why so many brands default to it when they build out ecommerce customer service.

Now the math nobody else runs. About $72.6M in ARR across roughly 500 people works out to somewhere around $140K to $155K in ARR per employee (my own calculation from public ARR and headcount estimates, not a Gorgias figure). That's a solid, healthy SaaS ratio. It's not elite, top-quartile SaaS companies clear $200K-plus per head, but it tells you Gorgias is a real, well-staffed business, not a two-founders-and-a-prayer operation you'd be crazy to depend on.

What Gorgias's size actually signals when you're sizing it as a vendor

Here's the thing nobody answers when you search this. You're not really asking how many people work at Gorgias. You're asking: can I trust this company with my support operation?

On that question, the size is reassuring. A 500-person company with a $530M valuation, Shopify as an investor, and $72M in recurring revenue is not a flight risk. It will be around next year. Your knowledge base, your macros, your team's muscle memory, all of that is safe.

But scale cuts the other way too. A vendor that size sells you software and hands you the keys, which means YOU run the build, YOU tune the automation, and YOU eat the result when it underperforms. Gorgias markets its AI at around 60% automation, but published case studies land closer to 26-56%, and the per-ticket pricing means a busy month can push a $360 base plan toward $960 once automated resolutions get billed on top. That's not a knock on a 500-person company. It's just what buying software from one looks like.

If you want to compare that model against a done-for-you one before you commit, book a 30-min call and we'll walk your actual numbers. For the rest of the company picture, our breakdown of how many customers Gorgias has and the full Gorgias pricing breakdown go deeper. If you're weighing the platform itself, the Gorgias alternatives list and the Gorgias AI agent pricing per resolution post are the two worth reading first.

Where phone support fits, and where Gorgias stops

One honest caveat that the employee count won't tell you. Gorgias is a helpdesk built around tickets, email, and chat. That's what those 500 people built. It is not a phone-first product, and phone is where a lot of $10M-$100M brands still leak revenue.

The numbers on that leak are ugly. WISMO calls run 30-40% of all support tickets, and over 50% at peak, and 85% of callers who can't reach a person never call back, with 62% switching to a competitor. A great helpdesk does nothing about the WISMO calls nobody answers after 6 p.m. This is especially sharp for Shopify Plus customer service teams running high call volume.

That's the gap Ringly.io fills. Ringly is AI phone support for Shopify brands. Instead of hiring and training a phone team, the AI handles inbound calls 24/7: order status, returns, product questions, abandoned cart rescue. Across 50+ brands the AI resolves 73% of calls autonomously at roughly $0.42 per resolved call, and the ones that need a human escalate cleanly into Gorgias, Richpanel, Reamaze, or whatever helpdesk you already run. It sits in front of your stack, it doesn't replace it. WashCo, a Shopify brand we launched, recovered $22,664 in its first 7 days on the phone.

"My customers also feel like it's a normal person. They feel like they can communicate if they have questions."
Claudia Droge, TechCraft Studio

Here's the cost picture most brands haven't run for the phone side specifically:

Line item Today With Ringly
6 reps × $4K loaded per rep $24,000/mo n/a
Ringly (illustrative) n/a $5,000/mo
Net monthly cost $24,000/mo $5,000/mo
Monthly savings n/a $19,000/mo
Annual savings n/a $228,000/yr

That's roughly 70% of repeatable calls (order status, returns, the same five questions over and over) handled by the AI. The genuinely complex calls still go to your team, who now have time to actually solve them. If your phone goes to voicemail after hours, that's the line item worth fixing first.

Frequently asked questions

How many employees does Gorgias have? Roughly 450 to 525 as of 2026. There's no official figure, so estimates vary by source: Revelio Labs models about 452, GetLatka logged 476, and Tracxn lists around 521. Treat any single number as an estimate.

Is Gorgias a big company? By SaaS standards it's solidly mid-size. Around 500 employees, a $530M valuation, roughly $72M in ARR, and nine offices worldwide. It's well past the startup-risk stage, so vendor stability isn't a real concern.

When was Gorgias founded and by whom? Gorgias was founded in 2015 by Romain Lapeyre and Alex Plugaru. Lapeyre is the CEO. It started as a Chrome extension for email automation before pivoting into a Shopify-focused helpdesk.

How much funding has Gorgias raised? About $129M total, most recently a Series C in May 2024 at a $530M valuation. Investors include Shopify, Sapphire Ventures, Sequoia, and Alven. Shopify being on the cap table is part of why it's the default helpdesk in that ecosystem.

How many customers does Gorgias have? Gorgias reports 15,000+ ecommerce merchants, including roughly 40% of the top 1,500 Shopify brands. We break that down in detail in our post on how many customers Gorgias has.

Does Gorgias handle phone support? Gorgias is built around tickets, email, and chat, not phone. For inbound phone calls, an AI phone agent like Ringly sits in front of Gorgias and escalates the complex calls into it, so you keep your existing helpdesk and workflows.
