Indian e-commerce giants are gearing up for the upcoming festive season by significantly expanding their workforce to meet the expected surge in consumer demand. Over 380,000 seasonal job opportunities have been created across various segments such as logistics, supply chain, and customer service, according to recent announcements from major players.

Flipkart leads with over 220,000 jobs

Flipkart, one of India’s largest e-commerce platforms, is taking the lead with the creation of over 220,000 seasonal roles. The company has also established 650 new delivery hubs specifically for the festive season, focusing on tier-2 and tier-3 cities.

"In the lead-up to the festive season, Flipkart is scaling employment opportunities, infrastructure, and tech deployments across 28 states. With the creation of over 2.2 lakh job opportunities, expanded last-mile reach, and inclusive hiring across Tier-2 and 3 cities, Flipkart's ecosystem-first approach this festive season is built for scale", the company stated.

Amazon ramps up operations with 150,000 new roles

Amazon India has announced over 150,000 seasonal job opportunities to support its network of fulfillment centers, sort centers, and last-mile delivery stations. These positions span across more than 400 cities, including Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Lucknow.

To ensure smooth operations during the festive rush, Amazon has expanded its infrastructure by launching 12 new fulfillment centers and enhancing six existing ones. The company has also inaugurated six new sort centers in cities such as Hubli, Trivandrum, Rajpura, Gorakhpur, Moradabad, and Prayagraj.

Myntra scales up with 11,000 additional roles

Fashion and lifestyle e-commerce platform Myntra is also preparing for the festive season by creating over 11,000 seasonal job opportunities. These roles aim to strengthen the company’s logistics, customer service, and last-mile delivery operations. Myntra’s fulfillment centers in Bengaluru, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Delhi will oversee critical functions such as sorting, grading, and packing.

The hiring surge reflects a broader trend of seasonal recruitment in India’s gig economy, particularly during the festive period. According to Nitin Dave, CEO of Quess Staffing Solutions, "We anticipate a 20-25 per cent increase in festive hiring across the blue- and grey-collar segments compared to last year. Interestingly, hiring requirements from our customers jumped 53 per cent between July and August alone, signaling a start to festive preparation. With Diwali arriving earlier this year, we expect strong momentum in Q2 itself."

Tier-2 cities such as Jaipur, Coimbatore, Indore, and Nagpur are playing a significant role in this trend, emerging as vibrant employment hubs as businesses expand beyond metro areas.

Key roles driving hiring demand

According to TeamLease Service Senior Vice President Balasubramanian A., delivery personnel remain in the highest demand during the festive period, comprising nearly 40% of seasonal hires. This is followed by warehouse workers (20%), customer support executives (15%), retail floor staff (10%), and field technicians (8%).

"Delivery personnel remain in highest demand, making up close to 40 per cent of festive hires. This is followed by warehouse workers (20 per cent), customer support executives (15 per cent), retail floor staff (10 per cent), and field technicians (8 per cent). The hiring mix remains heavily tilted towards delivery and logistics, in line with the expansion of e-commerce and quick commerce", said Balasubramanian A.

While the pace of festive gig hiring has stabilized compared to its post-pandemic surge, the absolute number of jobs continues to climb, underscoring the central role of gig work in India’s festive economy.

Conclusion

As the festive season approaches, e-commerce platforms are scaling their operations and workforce to meet heightened customer demand. With tens of thousands of jobs being generated across the country, this hiring spree highlights the growing significance of the festive season in driving India’s gig economy and employment opportunities.
